What Size Dumpster is Right for You?
One of the most frequent questions we’re asked is “What size dumpster should I rent for this job?” It’s a good question, so here is a quick primer for you. Dumpsters typically come in the following sizes: 10 yards, 20 yards, 30 yards and 40 yards. But what do those dumpster sizes mean?
10 Yard Dumpsters – As you would expect, these dumpsters handle smaller jobs, and are typically 12x8x4. We see smaller renovation jobs using these sized dumpsters. Examples would be a garage clean out, a shed being taken down, or a basement being emptied. Small re-roofing jobs with old shingles or even small interior renovations can fill a 10 yard dumpster.
20 Yard Dumpsters – For bigger projects, 20 yard dumpster rentals are a step up. Major renovations such as a large new roofing, a family room renovation or a large kitchen remodel can fill a 20 yard dumpster. A large old deck or major tree and shrub removal are also typical types of jobs for the 20 yarder.
30 Yard Dumpsters – Larger construction projects typically use a 30 yard dumpster. If you’re remodeling a house or completing a major renovation project, this is the right choice for you. Major roof jobs, re-siding or re-carpeting a large home might also require a larger 30 yard dumpster. Small commercial renovations or construction also typically use a dumpster of this size.
40 Yard Dumpsters – For the biggest residential jobs, or large commercial builds, the 40 yard dumpster hauls away several tons of waste or garbage. These dumpsters are also popular for large group gatherings such as festivals, concerts, or sporting events where large amounts of garbage need to be disposed of. 40 yard dumpsters handle the heaviest jobs and are terrifically efficient for large scale disposal programs.
